Phim truyền hình dài 50 tập của dạo diễn Nguyễn Cảnh Đôn được chuyển thể từ một vở kịch cùng tên . Đây là bộ phim quy tụ tới gần 50 diễn viên là những tên tuổi khá nổi tiếng trong làng ca nhạc, điện ảnh, thời trang… nhất là dàn diễn viên chính: Trang Nhung (vai Như Mây), Minh Luân (Trịnh Phong), Phương Thanh (Cửu Huyền), Hoài Linh (Trịnh Kỳ), Hồng Ánh (cô Ba Ngự Bình)… Chính vì thế mà dù mới khởi quay nhưng hậu trường làm phim đã không thiếu các tình huống bi hài khiến cho cả đoàn làm phim nhiều phen “vỡ bụng”.
Hoài Linh – lần đầu tiên đóng phim truyền hình lại vào vai một nhân vật có tính cách khá “đặc biệt” nên mỗi lần có các cảnh quay của anh là cả đoàn làm phim lại phải cười nghiêng ngả. Với kinh nghiệm đầy mình, trong nhiều cảnh quay Hoài Linh còn ngẫu hứng sáng tác thêm nhiều lời thoại mới khiến cho thư kí trường quay trở tay không kịp. Bản thân Hoài Linh nhiều phen không tự kiềm chế được cũng phì cười khiến nhiều cảnh quay phải quay tới quay lui đến 4, 5 lần.
Nhưng cảnh quay đạt “kỷ lục” quay lại nhiều lần nhất thuộc về cảnh quay cúng cơm Hoài Linh do Phương Thanh, Thanh Hoài và Quốc Cường (vai 2 người con của Hoài Linh) thực hiện. Cảnh quay này cũng là một trong những cảnh phải chuẩn bị đạo cụ, bối cảnh khá công phu. Bối cảnh quay tại ngôi biệt thự khá sang trọng của Hoài Linh nhưng vì nghe tiếng Hoài Linh nên người dân đã kéo về đây vây kín cả khu biệt thự, nhiều người còn leo lên cả hàng rào và gọi tên Hoài Linh ý ới. Bởi thế, để đáp trả tình cảm của mọi người dành cho mình sau mỗi cảnh quay Hoài Linh lại phải ra cổng trò chuyện vài câu với khán giả.
